Alaska Telephone Association Plan 2017-2026
The Alaska Plan, an initiative under the Connect America Fund, aims to support both fixed and wireless broadband services across rural Alaska. The plan is designed to extend broadband access to underserved populations by dedicating $150M annually to infrastructure and network operations over a 10-year term (2017-2026). Key objectives include restoring support levels for carriers, retargeting funds to remote areas, and establishing rigorous performance obligations to ensure widespread broadband deployment, ultimately providing thousands of Alaskans with new broadband service.

The Alaska Plan is an integrated strategy designed to address both fixed and mobile voice and broadband services within the high-cost regions of Alaska. Initiated following the USF/ICC Reform Order, the plan aims to restore and stabilize high-cost support for wireline and mobile carriers over a ten-year period, commencing in 2017. Key objectives include significantly enhancing broadband access and speeds across remote Alaska, targeting the deployment of 10/1 Mbps and 25/3 Mbps fixed broadband, and establishing widespread 4G LTE mobile service. The framework details specific provisions for funding, performance obligations, and accountability to ensure comprehensive service improvements.
