- The City of Charleston's IT department is planning to replace its data center infrastructure, including servers, storage, and data protection hardware, whose service life expires in 2027. - The IT department is requesting approximately $2.4 to $2.5 million for the fiscal year to fund these infrastructure replacements and related projects. - A server auditing system and event log collection are proposed to strengthen cybersecurity and meet CJIS compliance requirements. - The city is replacing an end-of-life access control server at Gilyard that has been running since 2015 and expanding access control to three fire stations.
- The village's server has been repeatedly failing for two weeks, causing loss of three days of work and ongoing access problems to critical systems. - Officials have spent roughly $5,000 on repairs so far, with replacement quotes ranging from $60,000 to $70,000, including labor and hardware. - They plan to move BSNA to cloud and adopt virtual machines to reduce reliance on the failing physical server, as part of the replacement project. - The village hopes to cover some costs with about $40,000 of $83,000 in grants, pending state and FEMA approval, with IT vendor VC3 supporting reimbursement claims.
